Step aboard the Royal Yacht Britannia, the first Royal Yacht to be built with complete ocean-going capabilities and designed as a royal residence to entertain guests around the world. Often described as “two ships in one”, the magnificent State Apartments and the Royal Family’s living quarters are serene and elegant in stark contrast to the functional Royal Navy vessel where the crew and operational equipment were in cramped conditions.  Spend a day at Gordon Castle where the annual Highland Games and Country Fair are held, an event that brings together the traditionally Scottish and quintessentially country to offer visitors a super day out. Enjoy the magnificent scenery of the Cairngorms National Park as we make our way to Balmoral Castle, the Queen’s private home in Scotland. You’ll see the Castle Ballroom and an audio tour will guide you around the gardens and exhibitions.

6 days / 5 nights

Day 1

Your holiday starts with a pick up from home by one of the vehicles from our Door to Door service which will bring you through to our coach. Once everyone is on board, we'll make our way to the historic market town of Morpeth and then continue our journey to the Novotel, Edinburgh Park, our base for two nights.

Day 2

Our excursion today is to the Royal Yacht Britannia for your self-guided audio tour. Britannia was the first Royal Yacht to be built with complete ocean-going capabilities and was designed as a royal residence to entertain guests around the world. There are five decks to explore and has often described as "two ships in one", the magnificent State Apartments and the Royal Family's living quarters are serene and elegant in stark contrast to the functional Royal Navy vessel where the crew and operational equipment were in cramped conditions. You'll see that all the clocks on board remain stopped at 3.01pm - the exact time HM Queen was piped ashore for the final time during the decommissioning ceremony in 1997.
We'll return to the hotel after our visit where you may simply wish to relax or make use of the hotel's leisure facilities. Alternatively, the hotel is only a short walk from Edinburgh Park rail station and a 12 minute ride to the city centre for those wishing to go. Please note that the cost of this is not included in the cost of your holiday and at the time of writing, the fare is approximately £6 per person return.

Day 3

Leaving the hotel after breakfast, we travel to Grantown-on-Spey for our two night stay at the Craiglynne Hotel. Our journey will take us through the magnificent scenery of the Cairngorms National Park and we'll make suitable comfort breaks en-route.

Day 4

We spend the day at the annual traditional Highland Games and Country Fair held in the historic grounds of Gordon Castle. The event brings together the traditionally Scottish and quintessentially country providing a memorable day.

Day 5

Balmoral is the Queen's private home in Scotland where she spends her time August-October. You'll be able to see the Ballroom, the largest room in the Castle, with its many original pieces of fine art and treasures. An audio tour is provided to guide you around the formal and production gardens as well as several other exhibitions located in the stable block. We'll spend about three hours here before leaving for Pitlochry and the Fishers Hotel.

Day 6

We'll leave the hotel after breakfast to begin our journey to your drop off point where the Door to Door service vehicles will be waiting to take you home. We'll make suitable comfort breaks during the journey.
