Scone Palace, Callander & The Famous Grouse Experience
After enjoying a hearty breakfast, we travel to Scone Palace, once the crowning place of the Kings of Scotland. We will enjoy a guided tour of this beautiful building, regarded as a national treasure and revered as the historic jewel in the crown of Scotland We finish our day with a visit to The Famous Grouse Experience 3pm at the Glenturret Distillery, Scotland's oldest and most visited distillery, nestled at the foothills of the Highlands. Truly special and unique, it is the only Scottish distillery where traditional methods of whisky production are still in use. We will enjoy a tour followed by a tasting at the end.
We begin our day with a scenic loch drive along lesser known beautiful Loch Earn as we enter into the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. We arrive at Loch Katrine where we embark on a 2 hour cruise on the steamship Sir Walter Scott for an awe-inspiring journey as we glide past stunning Trossachs landmarks such as Ben A'an and Ben Venue. The beauty of the loch has long inspired writers and poets and Queen Victoria famously sailed up the loch in 1869. We will make a lunch stop in Callander, a bustling tourist town situated on the River Teith, near Stirling, which is often described as the gateway to the Highlands. We then head into the bustling market town of Perth, located on the banks of the River Tay, with free time to explore the local shops and enjoy lunch at leisure in one of the many restaurants and cafés. We will then bid a fond farewell to Scotland's Fair City and travel the short distance to Taste Perthshire for a Scottish liqueur tasting before heading back to our hotel.
We begin our journey to Falkirk for a trip on the Falkirk Wheel. The Falkirk Wheel is the world's only rotating boatlift, which is used to connect the Forth & Clyde and Union canals in central Scotland. An exceptional feat of modern engineering, the 50 minute journey lifts the boat up to join the Union Canal 35 metres above and allows the boat to sail smoothly from The Falkirk Wheel onto the Union Canal. Following our boat trip, we will make a stop in Stirling.
The ancient capital of Scotland lies at the heart of the nation's history. The streets of the old town all wind upwards towards the magnificent Castle, 250 feet up on its craggy rock, dominating the surrounding landscape. We will have free time for lunch and to explore this beautiful historic city and castle. In the afternoon, we will return to our hotel
where we can relax and enjoy the facilities in this superb hotel on our last day.
After breakfast we depart our hotel and begin our journey home
