Day 1

Your holiday starts with a pick-up from home by one of the vehicles in our Door-to-Door service and this will bring you through to our coach. Once everyone is on board, we'll make our way to Huntingdon with suitable comfort breaks during the journey. We'll aim to arrive late afternoon to give you time to unpack and freshen up before dinner.

Day 2

Starting our day on the Epping Ongar Railway, we travel through picturesque countryside on a steam-hauled train to the town of Ongar, where we disembark and visit Greensted Church, the oldest wooden church in the world. We then return to North Weald station, where we have time for a visit to the North Weald Airfield Museum, which houses a collection of heritage & memorabilia telling the story of the adjacent North Weald Airfield and its wartime significance (N.B. large groups may need split visits into blocks). We can choose to jump on a steam or diesel train for an atmospheric trip through parts of the beautiful Epping Forest, or to continue browsing the Airfield Museum, after which we return to the hotel for our evening meal.

Day 3

We begin this morning with a bang, paying a visit to the Royal Gunpowder Mills in Waltham Abbey where we can explore the fascinating history of gunpowder, explosives and rocket propellants. In the afternoon we travel to Barleylands Farm Park, where we can make some new farmyard friends! Daily animal activities include lamb bottle feeding, snake talks in a huge Reptile House and a meet & greet with the centre's awesome birds of prey. We can take a break and enjoy a delicious afternoon tea at Tiptree Tea Rooms & Pantry, located on-site at Barleylands, before waving goodbye to our furry friends and returning to Cheshunt.

Day 4

This morning, we visit one of the area's most well-known landmarks, Waltham Abbey Church. The site has been home to a church since 610 A.D., and the magnificent building which stands today enjoyed fame and prestige during the Middle Ages as a popular site for pilgrimages. After departing the Abbey, we bid goodbye to Essex and return home.
