A Taste of Herefordshire

Sunday 18 April 2021

Single room (limited availability) £Nil

Herefordshire, England’s most rural county, is one of unspoilt countryside, market towns of distinctive character and a wealth of varied landscapes.  Explore the historic Cathedral city of Hereford which, whilst having the relaxed atmosphere of a market town, is home to the award winning Mappa Mundi centre and the two most extensive Chained Libraries in existence.  Discover the delightful black and white villages and take in the charming market town of Leominster, best known for its medieval black and white buildings. We visit the Small Breeds Farm and Owl Centre, housing many rare miniature animals and one of the finest breeding collections of owls in Europe. We also sample the delights of Hereford cider at Westons Cider Mill and locally produced cheese at Monkland Cheese Dairy.

The Green Dragon, Hereford***

An historic coaching inn dating back to the 17th century, located in the centre of Hereford, the hotel has 83 comfortably furnished bedrooms with tea/coffee facilities, TV and hairdryer.  There is a restaurant, cocktail bar and the Garrick Lounge.  Due to the age of the building, the rooms all differ in shape and size.

Day 1

Your holiday starts with a pickup from home by one of the vehicles from our Door to Door service which will bring you through to our coach. We'll stop for a couple of hours in the picturesque, compact historic city of Lichfield and will aim to be at the hotel late afternoon.

Day 2

Discover the delightful Black and White villages of North Herefordshire on our journey around the county. You'll have a chance to explore the charming market town of Leominster, the 11th century Priory Church is worth a visit whilst antique shops are a speciality in the town. The town is rich in historic buildings and the narrow streets and timber framing retain much of the mediaeval and Tudor characteristics. Leaving Leominster, our journey will take us through Sarnesfield, Kinnersely and Eardisley to the Small Breeds Farm and Owl Centre where we have included a light lunch. There'll be time to have a wander around and see the many rare miniature and rare breeds animals and the fine collection of breeding owls. Our journey back to the hotel will pass through Pembridge.

Day 3

A morning at leisure - the hotel is conveniently placed to visit the Cathedral and all the attractions Hereford has to offer - and this afternoon we head to Westons Cider Mill, makers of fine ciders since 1880. There'll be a tour and tasting followed by a cream tea.

Day 4

We visit Monkland Cheese Dairy, producers of local artisan cheeses. You'll have a tour of the dairy and be given an insight into their cheese making and of course, a chance to taste the cheeses.
We'll return to the hotel around lunchtime giving you the chance to spend a few hours in Hereford.

Day 5

Leaving the hotel after breakfast, we begin the journey home. We'll make suitable stops en-route to your drop off point where the Door to Door vehicles will be waiting to take you home.
