The Highlands and Scottish tour is a real gem and an opportunity for a tranquil break.  After spending our first night at the hotel on the banks of Loch Long, we continue into The Highlands with a scenic drive along part of Loch Ness and visiting Urquhart Castle.  As we cross over from Ullapool to Stornaway and arrive in the incredible Hebridean Isles, you really will feel like you have escaped from it all as you explore breath-taking coasts and countryside, fascinating history and unique island cultures on this, quite literally, “breath of fresh air” tour. Our circular tour of the Isles of Harris and Lewis (Largely unspoilt and uncrowded) helps us discover their fantastic scenery and we squeeze in a visit to the church of St Clement in Rodel, the Callanish Stones and Carloway Macbrayne an ancient Iron Age fortification.  On our way back to Stornoway, we also find time to stop at the Isle of Scalpay to admire its lovely waterfront village. Back on the mainland we continue to take in more of the West Highlands, visiting Inverewe House and Botanical Gardens and the rugged North coast on our return to Ullapool. We head South, touching Inverness, The Cairngorms, Pitlochry and, finally, Edinburgh.

Day 1

We travel north this morning through the Borders, with time for a lunch stop at Gretna Green where we will have time to visit the Famous Blacksmiths Shop which has been joining couples together since 1754. We continue north through Scotland and our overnight hotel situated on the banks of Loch Long, in time for dinner.

Day 2

This morning we begin our journey into the Highlands, and head for the dramatic splendour of Glen Coe, with our route along the A82 described as "one of the classic Highland journeys". We enjoy a refreshment stop in Fort William, known as the gateway to Ben Nevis. We then continue our journey via Loch Ness and Urquhart Castle before heading to Ullapool to catch the 17:30 ferry to Stornoway. We arrive at our hotel in time for a late dinner.

Day 3

South Uist & the Isle of Eriskay
This morning, we explore stunning South Uist, an island of the Outer Hebrides with crystal clear water and white powder beaches. We drive past the ruins of the 18th century Ormacleit Castle towards the Isle of Eriskay, which is linked to South Uist by a stone causeway. The beautiful little island of Eriskay is home to the bay where Bonnie Prince Charlie first set foot on Scottish soil. It is also known for its famous ponies, which are semi-wild and often seen wandering around the village. On our return, we visit the Hebridean Jewellery Shop and Workshop where we have the chance to purchase some quality handcrafted silver and gold jewellery.

Day 4

Today in the morning we head south to visit St Clement's Church in Rodel, which was built in around 1500. The Isle of Harris is linked by road to the Isle of Lewis and the drive passes some of the most dramatic coastal scenery in the UK. En-route we will have a comfort stop in Tarbert, the major township in Harris, where there will be an opportunity to visit the Isle of Harris Distillery shop and also the Harris Tweed shop where you will find a rainbow of colour and design. We will also visit the Isle of Scalpay and admire its lovely waterfront village before making our way back to Stornoway for mid-afternoon where you can spend the rest of the day at leisure exploring the islands capital.

Day 5

This morning we set off for a scenic tour of the west coast. Heading west from Garve we travel via Loch Maree to Gairloch for a comfort stop at the harbour of this little fishing village, continuing north to the award-winning botanical Inverewe Gardens full of amazing flora not normally seen in the UK. Finally, we follow the route of the famous North Coast 500 along the coast back to Ullapool, marvelling at the rugged landscape which changes dramatically from turn to turn.

Day 6

Today we head south via Inverness and the Cairngorms, leaving the Highlands and on to Perthshire, and the charming town of Pitlochry for a lunch stop with time to browse the many unique shops in the attractive main street. We continue south to Dunfermline and our overnight hotel in time for dinner.

Day 7

After breakfast, we make our way across the Queensferry Bridge for a short visit to Scotland's majestic capital city of Edinburgh. We then say farewell to Scotland and continue our journey home.
